We are offering a controllers clinic on the weekend of 18th/19th May. Yes it’s a 2 day clinic.

We are encouraging members who are involved in setting and controlling or even in administrative tasks to attend this meeting with the objective of becoming a qualified controller.

For those who don’t understand the system, every event needs a setter, but also a controller. The controller will be more experienced and trained in quality systems, they will be responsible for the event being fair and safe amongst other things.

If you are interested in gaining this skill, the path is to

  1. attend a controllers clinic and
  2. Have set 2 classic and 2 sprint events
  3. Have controlled one event under a supervising controller.

The course will be delivered by Alistair Metherell, Alistair is on the Orienteering NZ technical committee and has delivered numerous controllers courses.

Topics include the Function and tasks of the Controller; Event Organisation; Technical detail about the map, control sites and courses; SportIdent and timing; Complaints, Protests and Juries; Health and Safety; Practical Exercises and Controlling Conundrums.

There will be a field exercise on a local park map.

Members from any club around New Zealand are welcome to join us. Please reach out by email orienteering@taranakiorienteering.org.nz - we may be able to help with accommodation.

There is no cost for attending this course and morning tea and afternoon tea will be provided. Please register via the event registration form
